FS Condensed

Design Notes

A re-cut of a classic, with an exaggerated personality.

Designed with FCB Aotearoa.

FS Condensed is a bespoke reworking of Grotesque No.9, pushing even further with the quirkiest features, and adding extra contrast. It’s hand-made feel is accentuated, harking to the produce-for-sale signs you find dotting the New Zealand countryside. It is the second typeface designed for Four Square, used as a companion to FS Fresh. They sit alongside neatly, without competing — FS Condensed having a clear use for sub-headlines, and calls to action. It is the typeface used for the iconic ‘What’ll it be today?’ stickers.

Dependably Convenient

EVERYTHING WE DO, WE DO TO MAKE EVERYDAY LIFE A LITTLE EASIER.

Today there’ll be cereal that needs milk, teeth that need paste, dark rooms that need lightbulbs, mistakes that need fresh flowers, deadlines that need quick dinners, sausage rolls that need sauce, noses that need tissues, recipes that need baking soda, bad hair days that need elastic ties, grazed knees that need ice blocks, freshly hatched bottoms that need nappies and rumbling pukus that need pies.
